Update on our friend...

Well, the petition I asked you all to sign turned into quite a big thing in our little town! My husband and father-in-law wound up on the 5 o'clock news today and the front page of our local paper.... Here's the clip from the news - you can learn more about our what happened with our friend, Todd, who is fighting cancer by watching this clip... (Incidentally, I was glad I cleaned the house yesterday, since I came home from work today and found out a camera crew had been in here!)

....and here's the link to the article in the Greeneville Sun - Click HERE.

Needless to say, we are very excited and thankful that the doctors have approved Todd getting the treatment! Definitely an answer to the prayers of literally thousands of people... Praise God!

a Wordsworth kind of day...

I am loving this glorious spring day...

Potential....

Busy bee...

Shrinking violet...

A fresh look for the inspiration board in the studio...

Resurrection Eggs - a neat way to teach children the REAL meaning of Easter...

I LOVE my string of pearls plant...
...and the luminous texture of succulents...

And a day like this calls for a little Wordsworth....

I wander'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

- William Wordsworth

I hope you're having a lovely spring day too...

Hello Blog Friends,

Just a quick note to ask a really big favor of you. For all of you facebook folks out there, here's what I'm asking...

We have a dear friend who has been fighting squamous cell carcinoma (cancer on his tongue, which has spread to his lymph nodes, neck, jaw, and now his lung) for the last year and a half or so. He has maxed out on all the chemo and radiation treatments he can receive, and he is attempting to get into a clinical trial of an experimental treatment they're doing in San Antonio, TX. This treatment has shown a lot of promise for patients with similar cancers, so of course, we'd love for him to be able to participate in the study (as this may be his last shot - barring a miracle, since the cancer continues to spread). He is a young, godly Christian man with a lovely wife and two very young children, and - needless to say- we'd all love to have him around for a long, long time...

The research center denied his application today for admittance into the trial study, due to a small difference of size in his tumor compared to their criteria. I'm sure in the multi-million or billion dollar drug industry, that makes sense, but when it's your friend, husband, father, or son, it's pretty hard to accept that you don't meet the "criteria" for something that could very well save your life... So, we, his friends, have gotten together a little facebook fan page/petition, which we are submitting to the research center - hopefully tomorrow. It's grown to over 300 people within a few hours, but we'd love to have many, many more people asking to allow Todd into the study. All you have to do is become a "fan" on the page, then write on the wall, adding your request that he be allowed into the study. Then, if you would invite all of your friends to do the same, that would be great.... the more, the better. Click HERE to join and sign the petition...

I doubt any one of you has not been affected by cancer in one way or another, so I know you can relate at least somewhat to this situation. Please help us help Todd get the treatment he needs, and please remember him and his family in your prayers. Thank you so much....

Here's Todd with his two children...

How I Spent St. Paddy's Day...

Well, I've been promising you some pics of the mural I was painting this week... Started and finished it yesterday - not a full wall mural, really just some decorative painting around a doorframe and a picture frame. My client asked me to use the tree and vine found in the print you'll see in some of the photos. The pictures didn't come out as well as I was hoping, because it was in kind of a tight spot, but you get the idea...

This color is more accurate above (her walls are a lovely caramel color),
but I think you can see the vine better in this one...

And around the door...

Here are some closeups so you can see the details better...

So there you have it...
It was lovely to be able to spend the entire day just painting away....
(and yes, I did wear green - the shirt I wore was green, and I had splotches of green paint all over my painter's pants - as well as just about every other color! Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day!)

Today, I'm enjoying a day off.... cleaning my house a little, catching up on here, and maybe in a bit, reading some of my latest 2010 Booking It piece - Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens. Love it.

Hope you're having a lovely day yourself...

Creative spellings of Creative...

One thing that constantly amazes me about blogging (being relatively new to the thing) is that some people actually read mine. People besides my Mother. (My Mother would probably read mine even if all my posts were documenting the sizes of dust bunnies I found that day or something equally dull - because, you know, she's my Mother... [Thanks, Mom....] And by the way, if your blog IS about documenting the sizes of dust bunnies, I have NO problem with that - knock yourself out. Excercise those First Amendment rights while you've still got 'em!) Anyway, I am honored that so many people, many of whom I don't know, are kind enough to keep up with me and my work on here and leave me kind comments and, occasionally, little awards like this one....

Diane was kind enough to send me this "Kreativ Blogger" award... (And I, too, am curious as to why they spelled "Creative" that way...) Thank you, Diane!  I don't know Diane personally, but I have enjoyed getting a little glimpse into her life and artwork through her blog. Be sure to stop by and check it out... she has some wonderful things on there!

Anyway, I am supposed to pass this on to seven other blogs that I like, give you the links, and also tell you seven little facts about myself. So, without further ado.... here we go...

My 7 Nominees (in no particular order):

Kaetlyn (love her little animal series she's doing now...)
Jane (charming little illustrations...)
Nessa Dee (love her collages!)
Gussy (don't you just want one of her CUTE little bags?!?)
Patricia (some lovely collages and other creative ideas...)
Christine (I love her simple backgrounds and soft colors...)
Mônica (who doesn't love cute little animals???)

A side note: whenever I do one of these, I try to nominate people I've not nominated previously - that gives you a chance to see more great blogs, and keeps me from becoming a pest handing these things out... As always, if you are one of my nominees, you should in no way feel obligated to participate or pass this along unless you'd like to! I just admire your work and wanted to share it with my readers!

...and 7 Random Facts About Me:

1. I am not very athletic. At all. Which is one reason why I paint, I guess. I do like a good game of racquetball, however.

2. I once played a character's voice on a children's Bible story tape called "Taking the Land" produced by a small company called Shepherd's Tales. Here's the link to the book that went along with the tape. (It's hard to find the tape these days.... gotta do random searches on Amazon and snag them when they come available.) Taking the Land: The Story of Joshua and the Victory of Jerico (Shepherd's Tales Bible Storybook Companions). Anyway, I played a little girl named Hannah who was supposed to be about 6 or 7, I think. I was about 15 at the time. And yes, I do still have something of a little cartoon character's voice. Anyway, I got my first real "paycheck" for it, which was pretty exciting for me... Thus began and ended my career as a child actress. That's probably a good thing, considering how many child actresses end up...

3. I like dipping green beans in applesauce. The green beans have to be warm and the applesauce has to be slighly frosty. Both have to be home-made/grown. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

4. I am allergic to synthetic chemical fragrances. I can't have candles, air fresheners, plug-ins, perfumes, or potpourri in my house, or I wind up with sinus infections and a cough that won't go away. I'm sure you wanted to know that.

5. I started keeping a list of books that I've read throughout my life when I was in junior high or so. I wrote down every book I ever remembered reading at that point, and have written down every book I've read since (excluding text books). I'm currently reading # 530. However, I still don't wear a plastic pocket protector, so maybe there's hope for me yet.

6. I hate dealing with any type of governmental paperwork. But I do it, because, you know, it's the government.

7. I find great satisfaction in cleaning and organizing things, which is why I find the TV show "Monk" so hilarious...

Probably more than you wanted to know... esp. #4. #3 is a tossup. Anyway, thanks for reading.

I'm starting and hopefully finishing a small mural project on Wednesday, so I'll have some pics of that for you soon! Stay tuned....

Thanks again, Diane, for this award! I am truly honored and humbled to know that you enjoy my blog!

The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated...

I am not, in fact, dead. Nor have I dropped off the face of the earth... just have a lot going on right now - in other words, life. Started a new job recently and have been staying busy with that.... But I'm slowly adjusting to my new routine, and hopefully will be finding some time to get back into my studio! So many ideas, so little time...

I will be doing a mural next week on my days off ("if the good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise," as one of my professors used to say...), so I promise to have something artistic to show for myself soon.... Thanks for your patience and for hanging in there with me during my "quiet" spells.... I'll have some pics to show you soon! Meanwhile, happy March!

Next Wednesday is St. Paddy's Day.... Photobucketdon't forget to get your GREEN on!
