Quotables: Amy Carmichael

From subtle love of softening things,
From easy choices, weakenings,
(Not thus are spirits fortified;
Not this way went the Crucified;)
From all that dims Thy Calvary,
O Lamb of God, deliver me.

Give me the love that leads the way,
The faith that nothing can dismay,
The hope no disappointments tire,
The passion that will burn like fire;
Let me not sink to be a clod:
Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God!

Pretty please...

Hi there!

Remember this little needle felted bunny???

Well, this little guy (or maybe it's a gal - pink ribbon and all) is up for "Best of the Best in Show" over at Lamb Around.

If you'll remember, a few months ago I asked you to vote for me in the "Best in Show" contest going on over at the Lamb Around blog. Well, you all did a great job of voting, and I actually won! Now, Lamb Around is doing another contest with all of the winners of the Best in Show contests, and my little bunny made it to the finalists! So, if you would be so kind as to stop by the Lamb Around blog once again and vote for "Beth Stone Studio" in the sidebar, I'd appreciate it so much! If I get the most votes, I will win a box full of surprise goodies! So thank you very much!

Click HERE for the link to go vote, then look for the poll in the sidebar....
...and of course, take some time to browse around Lamb's lovely blog!

There are 13 days left to vote!

Thank you very much...

By the way, my Etsy shop is back up for business... I plan to be adding some brand-spankin' new items soon, so stay tuned for that - I'll announce it here once I've updated the shop.

Also, I probably won't be around much this week - my husband is on break from school, and we're going to be getting some much-needed R&R. :o) I'll be back soon though, I promise....
Have a lovely week!

On Abraham...

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

- Romans 4:20-25

Just a quick announcement...

Hiya Peeps.

Just a quick note to let you know that my Etsy shop will be closed over the weekend while I participate in a local sidewalk art show. But no worries - I'll be reopening on Monday for business as usual. Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful weekend!

I've gotta run - still lots to do before tomorrow, and it's already 12:21 am! Eek!
See you on Monday!
xoxo (<--whadda ya think? corny or no?)

The List that Never Ends: #301-310

Today I'm continuing in the discipline
of counting my 1000 gifts - 1000 ways I have seen
God's blessings, or God's work around me...

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and cometh down from the Father of lights,
with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
-James 1:17

Today I am thanking God...

301. ... for random orders for my jewelry from strangers when I'm out and about town.
Photobucket

302. ... for an opportunity to reconnect with an old friend.
303. ... for a furry visitor for my dog to play with...

Photobucket

304. ...for an amazing thunderstorm last night. God is amazing.

305. ... for two unexpected opportunities to participate in art shows this summer, at little or no cost to me. (Needless to say, I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off getting ready for them now!)
Photobucket

306. ... for a lot of work accomplished in a short amount of time.

307. ... for the Dads in my life...

Photobucket
My Dad

My Papaw

My Father-in-Law

308. ... for the simple life.

309. ... for small town life - I miss having quick access to a big variety of things (like art supply stores!), but I also like the home-town feeling and how you get to know so many people around town.

310. ... for men who set good examples for their children - in particular, the man I saw at the gas station who was filling up all the equipment for his lawn care business. He had his two sons with him and was teaching them as he worked. It probably would have been much easier and quicker for him to have left the kids at home and to just do the work himself, but he was taking the time to teach his sons "man" stuff. Yes.

Are you giving thanks today?

The List that Never Ends: # 291-300

Today I'm continuing this little exercise of thankfulness:
counting 1000 gifts from the Giver of all good gifts, and writing them down....
because they're everywhere, if you just start looking for them.
Photobucket

Today, I'm thanking God...

291. ... for a fun day at the water park with some good friends.

292. ... for the "golden hour" - that hour or so just before sunset where the light gets golden and the shadows get long - perfect for photography.

The Golden Hour

Prints available in my Etsy Shop.

293. ... for the smell of hay fields.

294. ... for a sweet surprise at the end of my walk.

Photobucket

295. ... for the hymn, "Before the Throne of God Above," and for getting to sing it twice yesterday.

296. ... for some beautiful hydrangeas for my kitchen - a surprise from a friend.

Photobucket

297. ... for stories from my Papaw over Sunday dinner.

298. ... for my new favorite healthy "chocolate milkshake" substitute. Here's the recipe:
            In my Vitamix, I blend:
  • a few carrot sticks
  • a few celery sticks
  • a handful of kale
  • 2/3 scoop of Health Barn brand vanilla egg protein powder (unsweetened - pretty much only contains egg protein and vanilla flavoring).
  • 1 heaping teaspoon of each of the following:
    • unsweetened cocoa powder
    • psyllium fiber powder
    • flax or chia seeds
    • coconut oil
  • stevia to taste (I use about 1/8 teaspoon, but the amount needed varies greatly by brand)
  • 1/4 teaspoon spirulina powder
  • 7 or 8 generous shakes of cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • dash of salt
  • 7-10 ice cubes
  • 1 c. unsweetened vanilla flavored almond milk
Sounds gross, but it's actually pretty tasty and super healthy.

299. ... for a good, steady rain last night - so good for my garden.

300. ... for a God Who always provides.

Are you giving thanks too? Link up over at...

When to say when...

If you keep up with this blog at all, you may or may not be expecting me to have a Booking It review ready for you today. Although I have been reading The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens this month, I am sorry to report that I did not finish it in time and, thus, do not have a review ready for the link party.

Photobucket

Which brings me to this little announcement: I will be bowing out of the Booking It challenge for this year. It's a wonderful idea, and I've really enjoyed participating over the last year and a half. However, with life being a little crazy right now and with several other business-related goals set for the year that need to become a higher priority, I've decided to eliminate the self-imposed reading assignments and review deadlines.

Josh just came in, asked why I was photographing the bookshelf followed by,
"Why don't you ever take pictures of me?"
Then he struck up this pose:

Photobucket
I took advantage of the opportunity since normally he shies away from the camera.

He wants you all to know that this is his "pensive" look.

Anyway.

I'll still be reading and may even post an occasional book review or two, but my goal is to get busy in the studio and focus both my time and energy back on my artwork....which, incidentally, will give me more creative projects to share here with YOU, which is why I started this blog in the first place.

So, bear with me as I regroup a bit, and thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Pitter Patter...

Recently I became an aunt for the 19th time.
Yes, you read that correctly - 19.
For real.

Photobucket

Needless to say, we are all pretty excited around here...

And as with all birthdays, you've gotta have some presents!

When I have the time, I love to create handmade gifts for my family and friends -
they're so much more personal.

So, for my new little niece, I made my first attempt at handmade baby shoes....
here they are:

Photobucket

I had all of the fabric and buttons on hand, so the only thing I had to do was get some elastic for the cuffs. They were super easy to make -
cutting them out and ironing on the interfacing took longer than the actual sewing!
Photobucket

If you would like to try making some yourself, you can find a free pattern HERE.
This is a great way to use up little odds and ends scraps of coordinating fabrics from your stash.
Photobucket

I certainly plan on making some more - they're super easy and quick and make a perfect baby gift...

In fact, I'll probably be making some more pretty soon.

Number 20 is due later this year.
:o)

a little housekeeping...

If you're anything like me, you probably follow a lot of blogs. I've found Google Reader to be a convenient way to keep up with updates from all of my favorites; however, one drawback to using a reader is that you miss out on the unique "atmosphere" of each particular blog - the themes, the banners, the neat stuff parked over in the sidebar, the extra pages, etc.

So, I'd like to personally invite you reader folks to take a moment to click over and visit "in person." I've got a new "summer" header up and some other great things. A few items I'd like to point out are....
  • My Delicious Links (scroll down until you see the "Worth Reading" headline in the sidebar) - whenever I find a good article, website, or resource online, I tag them in my Delicious account. The links post automatically to this little section of my sidebar. Be sure to check in regularly for some great posts!
  • "Beth Stone Likes: A Little Collection of Favorite Things" - this button (look under the "Links" heading in the sidebar) will take you to my "Pinterest" board. If you're not familiar with Pinterest, it's this cool website that allows you to create virtual "bulletin boards" online that you can share with friends/followers. You can collect pictures from your favorite blogs, stores, websites, or photo galleries and keep them all in one place, along with comments/notes on each one. You can also link up with your friends and see the images they've collected too. It's super cool - stop by and set up your own account (and feel free to "follow" me there too - I usually follow back!).
  • "Sites I Love" - you'll find this page near the top of the sidebar - look for the button with the little red heart. This will take you to a page with links to some of my favorite blogs, ministries, resources, and sources of inspiration.
And finally, if you have ever tried to access my blog on your mobile, you may have noticed that it took a long time to load or looked rather wonky when it finally did. I've changed some settings so that my blog is now mobile-device friendly. So, the next time you're on the go, check it out! :o) Photobucket
I hope you're having a lovely week....

The List that Never Ends: #281-290

Today I'm thanking God...

281. ...for a beautiful place to walk that starts with this...

....and ends with this...

282. ... for a furry walking buddy (who also gives me an extra nudge to get out there when I'm a bit lacking in the motivation department).

283. ... this one's gonna sound strange, but I always breathe a little prayer of thanks when I'm out shopping and I make it out the door without setting the alarm off because the little chip thingy didn't get deactivated when checking out. A strange item for my list, I know, but it's the little things...

284. ... for beautiful music.

285. ... for getting to have some real dessert tonight! Whoop!
(I've been on a hard-core diet and haven't been eating any sugar for the last month in case you were wondering.)

286. ... for the first tomato of the year that actually tasted like a tomato. Hello, summertime!

287. ... for a lot of little pain-in-the-neck tasks checked OFF of my to-do list!

288. ... for feeling GOOD! (See # 285 part 2)

289. ... for Zevia, my new favorite soft drink - all natural, sweetened with stevia, lots of good flavors...
(although I do miss Cherry Herbal Dr. Enuf, but I definitely don't need the sugar).

Zevia Natural Diet Soda, Cola, 12-Ounce Cans (Pack of 24)

290. ... for people who don't give up on things,
and a God who doesn't give up on me...

Are you giving thanks today?

In Which Guinea Pigs and Sharks Live in Peace and Harmony...

Meet my latest needle felting projects....

Earlier this spring we went to visit one of my husband's sisters and her family, and two of their kids requested these little critters...

Photobucket

My niece wanted a guinea pig like the one I had made for her older sister earlier this year...
I made the colors a little different so they could tell them apart...

Photobucket

Photobucket

I think she was pretty happy with how it turned out....

Photobucket

And my nephew made a special request for a shark...

Photobucket

He felt right at home hanging out in the kiddie pool...

Photobucket

Photobucket

And his new owner seemed pretty happy with him too....

I couldn't resist making myself a little something while I was at it.
At Hobby Lobby I found a little tiny glass bowl that was perfect for a miniature "fish bowl,"
and it reminded me of a project I had seen in this book:

Felting - The Complete Guide

Here's how my version turned out...
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
It's been handy for keeping all of my felting needles together,
and I think it's kinda cute... ;o)

I hope you're having a lovely week!

Quotables: Thomas Aquinas

"Some there are who presume so far on their wits that they think themselves capable of measuring the whole nature of things by their intellect, in that thy esteem all things true which they see, and false which they see not. Accordingly, in order that man's mind might be freed from this presumption, and seek the truth humbly, it was necessary that certain things far surpassing his intellect should be proposed to man by God."

- Thomas Aquinas
Summa Contra Gentiles (1264)
