WIP: Church Nursery Mural - Day 5

Well, yesterday was "paint dirt" day.

I spent most of my time working on the pathway - adding some more colors and textures, shading, and individual rocks.

Overall, I am pretty happy with how it's progressing. (Thank you all, by the way, for your sweet comments - I'm glad you're having fun watching the process...)

I don't know why, but something about it right now is reminding me of a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip.

Do you agree?

Maybe I should put a sleeping tiger in my tree.

Call me a weirdo, but I never have so much fun as when I'm painting dirt.... or any other element of a mural, really.

After I get the subjects painted in, I will be adding some individual grass blades, flowers, and bugs to dress up the edges of the path, the roots of the trees, and to help "set" my subjects down into the grass. Now that the bulk of the background is pretty much done (except for those final details), I can start working on my subjects and the fun stuff.

I'm particularly happy with how the end of the path area turned out.... I like how it looks like a patch of sunlight is hitting that spot.

If you look closely, you can see the beginnings of a little squirrel... I will be finishing him up today, plus getting started on some of my subjects. So, I'll be back tomorrow with more pictures! Thanks for hanging in with me while I work on this!

And on another note, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my husband Josh! Love you!

And to the rest of you, Happy Unbirthday.... ;o)

  1. Okay...this is how good you are - I was looking at the mural and I wondered "wow...wonder what that blue thing is in the path..."

Which upon closer inspection I found to be the painter's tape around the doorknob!

The door had completely disappeared to my eye so I thought it was some very cool blue critter.

    Seriously!

  2. A very merry un-birthday to me! Brings back some Alice in Wonderland memories. ;-) It looks like you're making good progress - can't wait to see what little animals and bugs you hide in this one. Always fun to watch! :-)

  3. I don't know how I found you, but am so thankful that I did. I am amazed at the gift God has given you. What beauty you create! I love the murals. They would bring me joy everytime I saw them. I hope that they will be in a prominent place where others can enjoy the wonder! Have a blessed day!
